Our practice is grounded in research and multidisciplinary collaboration. Recent projects have focused on affordable housing in Kampala, Uganda.

Doreen Adengo | Principal

Doreen is a registered architect in the United States and Uganda. After completing her undergraduate and graduate studies at the Catholic University (Bachelor of Science in Architecture) and Yale (Masters of Architecture), respectively, she worked for design firms in London, Washington DC, and New York. Now based in Kampala, she founded Adengo Architecture in 2015.

Doreen’s practice ranges from the design of furniture and buildings to research and advocacy focusing on the urban and regional scales. She has helped produce exhibits and workshops exploring Ugandan urbanism and architecture at the Goethe-Zentrum Kampala and the Architecture Museum of the Technical University Munich.

She has also taught at The New School and Pratt Institute in New York, the University of Johannesburg’s Graduate School of Architecture, and is currently teaching at Uganda Martyrs University.

Franklin Kasumba | Graduate Architect

Franklin Kasumba graduated with a Bachelors of Architecture degree from Ardhi University (Tanzania) in 2014. He then worked at different scales on various projects in Tanzania, before moving back to Uganda and joining Adengo Architecture in 2018.

He believes that architecture has the potential to provide solutions that address how people live and interact with their spaces with respect to context, lifestyle, culture and climate, in Africa and beyond. He is also passionate about architectural photography.

Nina Peters | Architect

Nina has Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Urban Planning Degree from University of Stuttgart (Germany) and Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura Madrid (Spain) and a Masters of Architecture Degree at the Technical University Berlin (Germany).

Since 2015, she has been working for Adengo Architecture as a Freelance Architect based in Berlin. She is passionate about the complexity of cities and the development of resilient and sustainable structures & spaces together with its users. She likes to interweave practical action with strategic planning. In Berlin she is part of a cooperation for city development which aims to develop common good oriented spaces affordable in the long term.

She is also Co-Founder of Made-in-Kampala a furniture company with a focus on using recycled materials that are locally sourced.

Gillian Josephine Odelle | Office Administrator

Gillian graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Makerere University in January, 2020.  After working in the IT industry, she joined Adengo Architecture in November 2020 where she has the valuable role of ensuring the smooth day to day running of the office.

Jannie Kaas Hauge |Architect

Jannie graduated with Masters of Art in Architecture Degree(RIBA II) from Aarhus School of Architecture with an additional education in Journalistic Communication from Danish School of Media and Journalism. She joined Adengo Architecture as a Freelance Architect, while working on a project in Masaka, Uganda in 2018. She is passionate about architecture and its impact on people and our everyday lives. She strongly believes that building smarter, greener and more affordable should not have to compromise architectural aesthetics and integrity. 

 Jannie is based in Copenhagen where she founded her company JAHA Arkitektur and was recently certified in energy consulting, wanting to contribute to build a cleaner future.

Raymond Tucungwire | Accountant

Raymond is highly talented and motivated person with a Bachelors Degree of Commerce (Hons) from Makerere University. He is currently pursuing ACCA (Level III.)

His past work experience includes Auditing, Accounting and Tax Consultancy with a practical approach to problem solving, analytical skills, multi-tasking skills, particularly in implementing and enforcing organisational procedures and adherence to established policies. His dedication to financial security and transparency to the employer has helped him earn the trust of many different employers.

Raymond is an excellent leader and team player. He is able to efficiently divide up tasks and take charge of identifying key objectives when needed.
